Muhler Storm Stud

Henry Hay with the Muhler Company: If you're building or remodeling coastal South Carolina, the codes have changed in regards to hurricane protection. If you're using plywood, you now have to permanently mount the fasteners around the window and door. This is an example of a male panel mate, this is a female panel mate.
Additionally, you now have to pre-drill your plywood to match the holes, so if you're deploying your plywood, you put it up, match your holes and attach it.

Muhler Company's come up with an alternative method of meeting the code changes regarding hurricane protection. Instead of putting fasteners in your wall, around your window and drilling holes, we've got a clean, simple method. When you install your new construction window or replacement window, the attachment points are in the window. You don't have to put anything around the window. When you're ready to deploy your plywood, you just remove the decorative strip, there are your attachment points. The plywood is pre-drilled to match the attachment points. Just take your plywood in a matter of minutes, you screw it in and you're done.

With the storm stud it's an easy install. You pull the decorative cover off, there are your anchors and here it is with the plywood installed. So you can have this or this.
